24 Days of Turtle: Day 16 (Cowabunga Christmas Cookies)

This holiday season, Santa is coming to the sewers! 24 Days of Turtle is a countdown until Christmas guaranteed to make you merry. From December 1st through 24th, this advent calendar will shell out 24 different TMNT Holiday-themed treats. Each day will offer something new, something ninja.

DAY 16: COWABUNGA CHRISTMAS COOKIES

Christmas is a big deal. Nothing else even comes close. There can be no mistakes leading up to the big day. Were you naughty or nice? To avoid coal in your stocking, you follow the formula.

Be on your best behavior.

Make a well-detailed wish list.

Put in some face time with the Santa at your local mall.

And most importantly, on Christmas Eve, leave out the milk and cookies. If Santa slides down your chimney to find a cookie-less home, consider yourself doomed.

The Turtles love pizza. Santa Claus loves cookies. Life principles, dude.

Even though I turned 30 this year, I'm not taking any chances. If Santa decides to swing by The Sewer Den, I want the man to have his fix. But in my room filled with TMNT treasures, I can’t offer him any ordinary cookie. In The Sewer Den, I’m dishing out Cowabunga Christmas Cookies.

My girlfriend, Jessica, and I entered the kitchen with determination. Like a victorious attack against the Foot Clan, we beat down and flattened our dough. Using a set of classic TMNT cookie cutters, we put the cowabunga in these Christmas cookies.

With a touch of food coloring, our boring cookie dough mutated into awesome. Go green or go home.

These cutters aren't simple. Thin lines, lots of detail, and small text create an elaborate design.

If Ol’ Saint Nick has a favorite Turtle, he’s in luck. These classic cookie cutters feature all 4 green machines.

We survived our first battle by fighting the urge to eat all the cookie dough. Ninja-like patience prevailed! Next, we popped the green pastries in the oven. The timer slowly ticked, and slowly tocked, as a Cowabunga Christmas Cookie-anticipation took over. A mouthwatering aroma flooded the kitchen.

When these dudes were finally done, I was rockin’ around the Christmas tree - we didn’t burn them! But, that’s where the success ended. Although the scent of the Cowabunga Christmas Cookies was alluring, the visuals were not.

The silly designs and green glow went missing during their 7-minute adventure inside the oven. Beautiful dollops of cookie dough entered the oven, but mutated blobs of faded-green cookies came out.

Check out the before and after photos of these green guys.

But, my eyes are not the jury on the trial of the Cowabunga Christmas Cookies. That job is for the taste buds – and those dudes don’t lie. Their verdict? The cookies are found…delish. Christmas cheer in every bite.

Santa won’t find himself disappointed in The Sewer Den. These cookies are sure to curb his cowabunga cravings. On Christmas Eve, I’m leaving a giant plate stacked high as a mountain of these green dudes. Let’s just hope he doesn’t get crumbs all over my Technodrome playset.

  1. I just had the pleasure of eating a Cowabunga Cookie (Raphael), and I can vouch for their excellence. In a word, they were "tubuloso."

    1. Awesome! Glad your taste buds found them yummy. Rapahel was the cream of the cookie crop. You chose wisely!

Also - you deserve an award for dropping the word "tubuloso."

  2. I was told these cookies were filled with Turtle Power. Clearly they were.

  3. These look terribly delicious. Would love to take a bite out of it. Too bad the design also faded after being baked. That's what made these mutated cookies so special.

Ah, well, Santa will still dish out the turtle he loves the most, Donatello, eh?

    1. Maybe this year Santa will wear a purple bandanna while he's scarfing down the Cowabunga Christmas Cookies?

Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.
