DAY 10:
MICHAELANGELO'S CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.”
When hearing these lyrics, a soothing, Christmas-comfort
trickles through your body. You imagine yourself sitting in front of a fire,
perfectly warm – relaxed and enjoying the holiday season.
But, does anyone know how long it actually takes to roast
chestnuts? I wasn’t sure, so I looked it up. About 30 minutes! That’s a long
time, dude. Who has 30 minutes to just stare at a fire? Our
high-tech, on-the-go society, fast-paced society has molded me into a guy who
finds relaxation difficult. If you give me chestnuts roasting on an open fire, please
give me something else to do during the roasting.
How about a book? More specifically, a comic book. For Day 10
of 24 Days of Turtle, The Sewer Den is unwinding by the fire
with Michaelangelo’s Christmas Special.
First up, Mikey.
Released in 1990, the story follows Michelangelo on a snowy
December day. New York City is a winter wonderland filled with festive friends
and foes. Mikey is nothing but merry. The dude goes sledding, stops a robbery,
delivers toys to kids, and even befriends a stray cat along the way! It’s an entertaining
read that brings perfection to a tranquil night by the fire.
While Mikey’s story was wrapped in Christmas cheer,
Raphael’s tale sleds a darker path. Being a scrooge, the hotheaded Turtle
leaves his brothers behind on Christmas Eve. With the help of a few ghosts, Raphael
witnesses his life in the past, present, and future. This Christmas Carol
thread is a bit grim for a TMNT holiday special, but is still a compelling read.
Spoiler alert, it ends on a happy note.
Both stories pack a holiday punch. Whether you’re craving a
Christmas adventure or a sincere seasonal tale, Michaelangelo’s Christmas Special will bring you joy - especially if
you’re reading it by an open fire.
Make sure to return tomorrow for Day 11 of 24 Days of Turtle!

Ooh, what a coincidence. While I was surfing through the webs yesterday, I actually stumbled upon this on eBay. I took a closer look at it, since i found the artwork and the title of it interesting (considering Christmas time is upon us!).
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun bit to read, the illustrations definitely live up, and ending on happy notes is what the spirit of the holidays are all about. Nice one.
I'm a sucker for a happy ending - especially during the holidays!
DeleteIf you can find the comic on the cheap, it's worth shelling out a few bucks. It will fill you with Christmas spirit!
